Mothers Day

Today we spent some time writing messages to our Mum's. These messages were wrapped around a flower pot. 
For those who are curious about the seedling that your child has given you - it is a  candela flower.

Cheese Making

Today Vicky (Lucy and Bens's mum) came to teach us about cheese making. She also showed us the safety gear cheese makers need to wear. 
Over the next few weeks Vicky is going to work with small groups and make mozzarella cheese which we be put  on pizza's for us to eat.
We can't wait! 

Fantastic Fun Friday

Today we were fortunate enough to have a number of parents and a grandparent provide us with some wonderful learning experiences.
Thank you to Jan (Lily's nana) for our Music lesson, Nadia (Caitlin's mum) for baking delicious rhubarb muffins, and Heidi (Mia's mum) for making delicious apple juice with apples from our school orchard.
Te Puāwai are so lucky to have the support of these talented people to enrich our learning.

Our Special Visitor at Swimming Time

We had lots of fun in the pool today with our swimming expert.
Today was a goggle-free swim day. We learned heaps about flotation and buoyancy to build our self-confidence. 

Te Puāwai have decided to have a goggle-free day every Monday and Wednesday. This helps to make children comfortable in the water without the aid of goggles. It is important for water safety as in the event of an unexpected fall into the water they might not have goggles on. 

We will continue focusing on floatation and buoyancy activities in our lessons along with having fun. 

Chinese New Year

Today we had a lot of fun in Te Puāwai celebrating the Chinese New Year. We discovered that Red and Gold are lucky colours and made laterns, patterned cut outs and had a go at writing Chinese calligraphy using bamboo and ink.

A very warm welcome to Te Puāwai for 2019. 

We are very much looking forward to the year and supporting your child in their learning journey. To those returning to our Hub, we look forward to continuing the journey.

We thought we would put a few notes together to help prepare for the S.T.I.N. interviews next Wednesday 30 January. S.T.I.N. interviews help us to learn about your child’s Strengths, Talents, Interests and Needs.

These interviews are for you and your child to talk to us. We are interested in hearing about anything you can share that could help with their engagement, their interest in learning, things that may impact on your child’s year in Te Puāwai.

Please feel free to make a few notes to bring. You may wish to talk to your child and form notes together.

What are your child’s passions, hates, loves?

What annoys them? At home and at school.

What have been the successes in your child’s learning at school?

2018 Te Puāwai End of Year Trip

Harold

We were very lucky to have Harold come and visit us on Friday. He brought with him a message about Keeping our Bodies Healthy. We learn't about eating a rainbow and drinking lots of wai (brain juice) as Harold calls it.

Getting Ready for Te Puāwai's Whakangahau

Te Puāwai have been practising hard in preparation for our Whakangahau this Friday where we will be performing four music items for the school and our parents.

Our Obstacle Course

We have been designing an obstacle course.
First of all we looked at Images on Google to see what things would be great to have as part of our obstacle course. Then we drew a plan and thought about what we wanted to include.
Next we made our courses with small parts in the classroom and photographed these.
Then we put our ideas together and made a course for our outside classroom.
We made a starting and finishing line and had fun today trialling the course.
Next we are going to time how long it takes each person to complete the course. 
It has been such a good learning journey as we have had to change and modify some of our ideas to make the course the best it can be.

Frankley School Carnival

It is our School Carnival tomorrow, Sunday 4 November.

Te Puāwai have made driftwood faces and creatures to help raise money for our school. These will be on sale in Room 3 for $2 each.

We  have our fingers crossed that the weather will be kind to us. Hope to see you there. 🌝

Gingerbread Horses

Just incase your child ate their gingerbread horse before you saw it, this is what they looked like.

Thank you so much for supporting this cause. $234 was raised for RDA. 

A big thank to our Learning Assistants Susan and Vanessa who helped some of our students make these yummy biscuits.

Music Sessions Are Back

We have all missed Mrs Aiello and her music sessions and were thrilled when she returned to Frankley School today.
We had lots of fun keeping the beat and using instruments to tell a story.
We thank Mrs Aiello very much for sharing her expertise with us.

Scooter Skills

On Tuesday we had some experts come to our school to teach us scooter skills.

This involved how to be safe on our scooters, how to make sure our scooters are safe, how to brake and stop, and the importance of wearing a helmet.

Half of our hub went up the Tukapa Street hill and practised checking for sneaky driveways but when the other half of our hub had their turn it started raining so we had to improvise and practise our skills in the hall.

It was a fun session and a valuable reminder to keep safe.

!00 B00ks Read Challenge

Congratulations to Ava for achieving the 100 Books Read Challenge.  She made a stuffed animal as her prize.

Fractions

Today we were learning about fractions. We divided our class in half and discovered that half of 24 children is 12.

Music and Dance with Mrs Aiello

Over the last term Te Puawai and Te Kakano have been very lucky to have Mrs Aiello visiting our school every Monday and take our classes for Music and dance. We have learnt a lot of new rhymes, songs and how to play interesting instruments. 
Our class gave Mrs Aiello a huge Thank You card with messages from all of us.
