Our End of Year Celebration
28
November 2017
Dear
Parents
We are
planning an end of year celebration day for Te Puawai on Thursday 14th
December.
Due to
popular vote by the students we have booked to go to Airzone (the cost of this
will be covered by our activity fee).
We will leave school by 9:30 and return by 11:30. We
then plan to have a sausage sizzle (sausages will be provided by us) and a swim
in the school pool.
We will need parents to help
with transport and some to assist us with the barbeque.
Can you please fill in the form
below if you can help.
Many thanks
Geraldine & Jenny.

The NZ Navy Military Concert Band
Today we went to the TSB Showplace to see the NZ Navy Military Band.
We all enjoyed the show very much, especially singing and dancing along to songs we knew.
It was a great opportunity to learn more about the instruments in the orchestra .
Te Puawai now wants to investigate how we can make some of these instruments for our Outdoor space.

Our Te Puawai Whakangahau
Today Te Puawai had their Whakangahau. We shared our weather poems and were lucky to enjoy a performance by the Kapahaka group. Last Friday they were involved in a kapahaka competition, held in Waitara. Thank you to all of the family and friends who were able to come and support us.

Solids, Liquids and Gases
Today Zoe and her two whanau groups tricked us all. They had been talking about the difference between solids, liquids and gases and how water can be in all three states.
They made a mixture of half a cup of cornflour and a quarter of a cup of water. They mixed this together and squeezed it into a solid ball. Something exciting happened when the kids passed the ball to a partner and they held it on their flat hands.
You could try this experiment at home and see what happens!

Our Skeleton's
Today Zoe showed us xrays and taught us about some of the bones in our body.
We drew on our arms and legs to show where some of our bones were.
We also had fun using a stethoscope to listen to our heart beating.
Cross Country
Luckily the weather was kind to us and we were able to run the Cross Country. All of the children tried hard and ran a great race.

Materials Recovery Facility
On Tuesday we had a very interesting visit to the Materials Recovery Facility. Through the windows of the Education Room we were able to see the whole sorting process, that our kerbside recycling goes through. We wish to thank all of the Parents and Grandparents who accompanied us to the facility and made the visit possible and Mr Baker who spoke to us at the Facility.

FUN WITH ZOE
Today Zoe taught us how to make safe sling shots.
We had so much fun discovering how we could make our corks fly the furthest.
Just look at the delight on our faces!

AMAZING COOKIES
Today our cooking group made the most delicious gingernut cookies.
The children are certainly master chefs in the making!
We enjoyed eating these while we watched a clip from this mornings Breakfast show about single-use plastic water bottles.
It is well worth watching at TV On Demand to learn some pretty scary facts about the amount of plastic that has been produced in the last ten years.

Our Building Table
We have our building table set up in our outdoor classroom area. All we need now is some fine weather to start using it!
Thank you to those people who have donated timber, nails, screws and tools. If anyone has anything they think would be useful to add to this resource we would be very grateful .

Friday Experiment - Making Ice-cream
Today Zoe taught two whanau groups how to make ice-cream.
They got a bag full of ice and salt and then measured cream, sugar and vanilla. They mixed these together by shaking them in a separate bag.
The result was delicious!
