Friday Experiment - Making Ice-cream

Today Zoe taught two whanau groups how to make ice-cream.
They got a bag full of ice and salt and then measured cream, sugar and vanilla. They mixed these together by shaking them in a separate bag.
The result was delicious!

Friday Baking Day

Last week one whanau group made lemon honey with Sharna using lemons from our school orchard and today another group baked with her. They used the lemon honey to make a delicious lemon shortcake.

Another two whanau groups worked with Zoe and made some yummy ice-cream so this afternoon we all had a feast!!!!

Thank you so much Sharna and Zoe, we really appreciate all you do for us.

Mr Archer

One  Important message from Mr Archer today was about reusing items that might otherwise end up as waste in a landfill.

TePuawai have thought about this message and decided to reuse milk bottles as containers for our Loose Parts Collection in our classroom. Over the next few weeks we will be gathering 3L Value Milk bottles and 1L Meadow Fresh milk bottles so that they can be cut down and reused as a container for our Loose Parts. We have chosen these types of milk bottle because they are rectangular and fit nicely on the shelves.

Thank you for your help to collect them.

The Three R's

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Our Topic for this term centres around The Three R's.
Today Kevin Archer from the Taranaki Reginal Council, came to visit TePuawai and talk to us about waste.
One of the important messages was that we can reduce waste at school by using reusable containers in our lunch boxes.

Afterwards we looked at our lunch boxes and found that many of us are already making good choices and minimising waste.

Lemon Honey

Each Friday one of our whanau groups has the opportunity to cook with Sharna. Today we picked some lemons off the schools lemon tree and turned it into lemon honey.

Friday - Experiments

Nina's mum is coming to Te Puawai every Friday to work with two of our whanau groups doing science experiments.
Today we put vinegar in a bottle and baking soda inside a balloon. We then put the balloon on top of a drink bottle and guess what? The balloon filled with air!
One balloon filled with so much air it exploded in Zoe's face!
You might like to try this experiment at home for yourself.
